Crucified For Thee

by Matthew Coover

Hanging; bleeding; dying
Upon the shameful tree...
A sinless, selfless sacrifice:
A sacrifice for me.

He paid all the ransom.
We ask, "How could it be?"
The son of man and son of Yah
Has died to set us free.

Crucified by humans
For all the world to see:
The maker of the universe;
Incarnate deity.

Heaven thus is darkened.
`Tis only just midday.
Should innocence bear punishment
That debts of old be paid?

Life hath left His body.
"Tis finished", did he say.
The battle done, the victory won;
'Tis meant to be this way.

Dost thou hear Him calling?
For thee His life He gave.
He bled and died on Calvary
That you too might be saved.
